Hyderabad: Several speakers who participated at a meeting convened by the Telangana Centre for Politics and Public Policy (TCPP) here on Saturday opposed the implementation of Section 8 of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act 2014, in Hyderabad.

T Vivek from Telangana Historical Society said a situation had been created in which the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leaders were demanding the implementation of Section 8, as if law and order in Telangana State had gone out of control. Though there was no situation that called for invoking the said Section, any attempt to implement it would have far-reaching consequences on Centre-State relations, he felt.

The TDP leaders had been trying to link up what was a prevention of corruption case in which some unscrupulous politicians were involved and because of that the security of people from AP was at stake. This was more than outrageous, which should not be tolerated, Vivek said. Referring to the initiatives taken by the Telangana government like providing Rs 75,000 for each police station, new vehicles, latest ammunition and the like for the police forces, the Telangana Advocates JAC leader Ranga Rao said it showed the importance the TS government was giving to maintain law and order in the State.

Convener of the TCPP, VV Rao demanded that the Union Home Ministry and the State Governor E S L Narasimhan make a statement clarifying the course of action, if any, on implementation of Section 8 in Hyderabad.
