Revenue officials pull down houses illegally constructed on lake bed at Setti Kunta

  • Investigation fails to pinpoint real culprits
Sangareddy: The slipshod attitude on the part of Revenue officials has led to a good number of people belonging to middle class families being robbed of their life savings. Those, who have lost their money, are none other than those who purchased houses in Setti Kunta.

The houses, which were built illegally on lake bed, at Setti Kunta , were pulled down on July 14. What was more tragic was that the construction of houses on the lake bed was brought to the notice of the Revenue officials, but they had not only failed to take action but also not cautioned the prospective buyers of dangers of purchasing them.

What’s more surprising was that though it was a week since the houses were pulled down, the Registration Department was not yet informed that no property on the lake bed should be registered. Enquiries with Sangareddy Sub-Registrar revealed that he had not received any communication from the officials that no registration of houses or any construction on the lake bed should be rejected.

The police, after investigation, registered forgery cases against eight persons for giving permission to construct houses at Setti Kunta. Two of them were already arrested. But the investigation did not seem to have delved deep into the conspiracy to find out real culprits.

Apart from it, the district administration did not take action against officials for turning a blind eye to illegal construction of houses on lake bed. Now, some influential persons dug borewells on the land and started commercial business by selling water. But there was no action against them.
