Hyderabad: In an exemplary show of concern over the pathetic condition of poor Muslim families, who could not earn even Rs 1,000 per month, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Monday pledged to bring the deprived classes and the poor into the mainstream through welfare measures followed by a comprehensive scientific study.

He directed the officials to conduct a time-bound study on the living conditions, income sources and other pathetic plights through videos recordings and other methods. The Chief Minister held a review meeting at his camp office which was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Mahmood Ali, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) Chief and MP Asaduddin Owaisi, Kund Committee member Amirullah Khan, Sudheer Committee of Telangana and officials.

“We will keep election eve promise of bringing these people into the mainstream with effective implementation of welfare schemes,” he stated. Chandrashekar Rao suggested that all political parties involve themselves in the study in at least four Assembly segments on par with those at national level, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

The study would finally give impetus on issues related to financial, social and educational in the near future in Telangana and make need-based recommendations to the government to initiate welfare programmes, he said. The Chief Minister focused the discussion on commission of enquiries, functioning of Sachar, Kund, Rahman and Sudheer committees for welfare of minorities.

Rao stressed the need for all political parties offering total support for 12 per cent quota in jobs for Muslims in Telangana with long-term, mid-term and short-term objectives. Besides allocating adequate funds through Shaadi Mubarak, welfare hostels and others, the government was keen on bringing the deprived and poor Muslims into the mainstream, he noted.

Two more persons - Amirullah Khan and Shaban - were added to Sudhir Committee for speedy conduct of the study. Meanwhile, in yet another high-level review meeting at his camp office, Chandrashekar Rao directed the officials to construct special reservoirs to cater to the drinking water needs of Hyderabad from Krishna and Godavari.

Chandrashekar Rao asked them to ensure that there was no dearth of drinking water to the people in the twin cities, industries, companies and business establishments through a plan of action to address growing needs in future. He said that existing 1.42 crore of people in the twin cities and adjoining areas now need 42.58 tmc ft water in a year.

Including lakes, reservoirs coupled with two rivers, the availability of water is put at 32 tmc ft, he said, adding that arrangements should be made to overcome the problem. He said Palamur project water would also be used for drinking purpose in the twin cities.

The Chief Minister asked the officials to make sure speedy completion of works to extend tap connections to every household in the city and outskirts. Commercial Taxes Minister T Srinivas Yadav and officials were present in the meeting.
