Hyderabad: The Telangana unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday constituted a 30-member election committee headed by Union Minster of State for Labour Bandaru Dattatreya for the upcoming Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) polls.


Senior leaders of the BJP met here to work out a strategy in the upcoming GHMC polls to better the party’s chances. Speaking to media persons, BJP floor leader K Laxman said the committee would work extensively to bag the Mayor seat. The party would soon expose the failures of the Telangana government by conducting door-to-door campaigns, he added.


The BJP floor leader felt that the BJP was the only political party that would give a head-to-head fight to the the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM). He expressed hope that the party would be strengthened both physically and socially in this regard. He also added that constituency-wise and division-wise meetings would be held as part of the campaign.


Several senior BJP leaders including its State president Kishan Reddy, national secretary P Muralidhar Rao, former Sikkim Governor V Rama Rao, Telangana in-charge Krishna Das, floor leader K Laxman, B Venkat Reddy, BJP Hyderabad city president Venkat Reddy and other leaders participated in the meeting.
