Hyderabad: Notwithstanding the differences among film-makers of Telangana State and Andhra Pradesh, the Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce (TFCC) was able to hold elections and constitute a new body. But, elections for Telugu Film Producers Council (TFPC) may prove to be mirage as it is caught in a legal tangle.

Even the much-awaited general body meeting proposed to be held on August 31 may not take place in the absence of mandatory 21-day prior notice for 800-and-odd members. “We haven’t received notice till date, so it is doubtful that general body meeting will happen. The present body doesn’t want elections and it has been running the show for the last four years illegally,” alleged producer Nattikumar.

He addressed a letter to the TFPC, demanding that the elections be held. “I asked them why elections are not held for last two years and urged them to conduct it at least now but they are citing a court case between few office-bearers as the reason for not holding the elections.
They told me that the elections to the body will depend upon the outcome of the court case. This argument is advanced only to drag on the issue. Can’t they move the High Court, seeking vacation of the stay on holding elections?”

Nattikumar expressed concern over “spending spree” witnessed during the tenure of the present elected body. They should account for spending Rs 5 crore out of total Rs 16 crore. “The funds are meant for the welfare of hundreds of members, but it’s not properly utilised. The office-bearers would find it difficult to answer questions on this count,”

When contacted, Mohan Vadlapatla, joint secretary of the TFPC, admitted that elections to the council could not be held because of legal tangle. “It is under the purview of the court. Our hands are tied,” he said. He, however, promised to ensure that notification for elections is issued immediately if the court gave the go-ahead.
