Hyderabad: The Telangana State government has decided to utilise the ongoing Grama Jyothi programme to plant 120 crore saplings thus completing the first year’s target of Haritha Haram in the State. With most of the districts witnessing rainfall for the last 10 days or so, the government believes this would be right time to undertake the plantation drive.

The government had fixed a target to plant 40,000 saplings in each village to increase the green cover in the State. As almost the entire official machinery in the districts has been touring villages presently, it could oversee the plantation drive successfully. Also, crowds were turning up in large numbers for Grama Jyothi programme and it would be very easy for authorities to motivate them so that each villager could plant two to five saplings in their area.

Forest Minister Jogu Ramanna has given instructions to senior officials of Panchayat Raj department, Principal Secretary Raymond Peter and Panchayat Raj Commissioner Anitha Ramachandran besides all district collectors. Trees should be planted on either side of Panchayat Raj and R & B Roads in all government institutions including education institutes.
