Hyderabad: The Congress party has formulated an elaborate strategy to retrieve its vote bank among the Muslims and Christians in the wake of forthcoming elections to Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation and Warangal Lok Sabha bye-election. As part of the strategy, All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary incharge of Telangana State Digvijay Singh will hold wide-ranging discussion with the leaders of the Muslims and Christians during his visit to the city on August 31 and September 1.

According to party sources, Digvijay Singh will have meeting with the elders of the Muslim community for at least two hours. The discussion will cover wide-ranging topics which include problems being faced by Muslims and the failure of the TRS government in keeping its promise to provide 12 per cent reservations for the Minorities.

The Congress party leaders are under the impression that the TRS government has estranged the Muslims because it reneged on implementing its promises to them, particularly the reservations to them. There was no mention of reservations for the Minorities in the notification for 15,000 jobs.

Digvijay Singh, during his interaction with the Muslims, is expected to assure them that the Congress party, if elected, would provide 4 per cent reservations for them. On September 1, he will be holding meeting with Muslim leaders in Hyderabad and later he will interact with Christian leadership, including top Bishop in Warangal in the afternoon.

Digvijay Singh will attend meeting to be held in Gandhi Bhavan on August 31 on the occasion of re-induction of former MLA Turupu Jayaprakash Reddy, known as Jagga Reddy. He will also review the progress of members drive.

The party is able to enrol 13.5 lakh members as against the target of 21 lakh. A round-table conference will also be held in Warangal on agrarian crisis in the State. The conference is intended to woo the rural voters in the wake of forthcoming Warangal Lok Sabha byelection.
