Hyderabad: Tourism in Telangana is all set to get a shot in the arm with the Telangana State Tourism Development Corporation (TSTDC) planning to spend Rs 600 crore for the purpose during 2015-16. From opening restaurants, introducing boating facilities, bund beautification and illumination, renovating forts and introducing new circuits including a tribal circuit, the tourism department is all set to woo tourists to the State.

The plans for tourism development was announced by P Ramulu, chairman, TSTDC at a function for capacity building and certified training courses for the corporation’s 45 water fleet boat drivers and swimmers by the National Institute of Water Sports, Goa. Mahbubnagar and Adilabad districts will be developed as eco-tourism and adventure tourism hubs.

Under the Swadesh Darshan Mission with a budget of Rs 99.86 crore, Somasila, Singotam, Akka Mahadevi, Uma Maheshwaram, Farhabad, Mallelatheertham and Egalapenta would be developed, according to tourism officials. An eco-tourism wayside restaurant and changing rooms with public washrooms at Kuntala in Adilabad district would be developed with Rs 100 lakh budget.

A new weekend package would be launched on September 27 on the Nalgonda-Warangal-Tourism circuit. The circuit commences at Hyderabad and cover Yadagirigutta, Kolanpaka, Warangal, Maluru, Medaram, Laknawaram and Ramappa. A tribal circuit (Medaram) has been proposed with a project outlay of Rs 60 crore under Swadesh Darshan.

The tourism department is planning to develop the recently discovered 15 km stretch caves at Nallaguntalu in Warangal as a major tourism attraction. Rock painting will be done at the caves to woo tourists as part of the project. Rock caves circuit is being planned that would cover Pandavulla gutta and Mylaram and adjoining caves up to Mulug.

Christina Z Chongthu, Managing Director, TSTDC, said Elangal sound and light show at Karimnagar would be ready for inauguration in October in time for Dussera festival. A tourism information centre, control room, ticket counter, seating gallery, snack bar and public washrooms would be developed at a cost of Rs 400 lakhs, she added.
