Hyderabad: Panchayat Raj and IT Minister KT Rama Rao on Monday asserted that the flagship Water Grid programme was getting fructified with the administrative machinery gearing up to provide water to 3,000 habitations including towns and villages in six months.

Panchayat Raj and IT Minister KT Rama Rao holding a high-level meeting with the officials on the Water Grid programme at the Secretariat on MondayThe Minister conducted a high-level review meeting with the officials concerned at the Secretariat here. He said safe water would be first supplied to Gajwel Assembly constituency in Medak district by April 30 next, and it would be extended to Medchal, Nalgonda, Ranga Reddy, Mahabubnagar and Khammam districts.

He instructed the officials to expedite the works to supply water in six months to 3,000 habitations, adding that the works of the Water Grid were bearing fruit. He also directed the Telangana Drinking Water project SEs and EEs and others to coordinate with other departments for speedy completion of works.

They must work to reach a target of providing water to 24,500 habitations, he said. Directing the officials to work with a deadline for supplying water to villages and towns, Rama Rao sought a report with details from them. “There is a need for speedy completion of internal pipeline works connecting the main lines,” he said.

As the related tenders and works of waterlines in Hyderabad were completed, the officials should now focus on field-level works, he said. “The SEs are authorized to take a decision on designs of pipeline and necessary changes can be done in coordination with district-level working groups,” Rama Rao stated. The officials could take outsourcing employees for the works in coordination with district collectors, he added.
