According to district officials, as many as 12,380 new applications had been received by the election commission for fresh registrations in the district. She directed the officials to complete the verification of application by December 15.

Ms Chengdu directed the district administration to give wide publicity through newspapers and conduct special awareness programmes in rural and interior areas on electoral registration process.
