Says the Chief Minister is losing patience because the TRS is locked in a tight fight

Hyderabad: Former Union Minister S Jaipal Reddy on Wednesday berated Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao for making personal remarks against Opposition leaders.

Obviously infuriated at Chandrashekar Rao questioning his role during the agitation for a separate statehood for Telangana, Jaipal Reddy said the Chief Minister was haunted by the possibility of the TRS losing the Warangal seat in the byelection. “Fear of defeat in Warangal byelection has provoked Chandrashekar Rao’s impatience,” he felt.

Speaking to media persons at Gandhi Bhavan, the former Union Minister said Chandrashekar Rao held the highest office in the State and as such he should not lose his patience. The restraint being adopted by the Opposition should not be construed as “weakness,” he asserted. “We do not cross the line, and uphold the values of mutual respect,” Jaipal Reddy said.

On Chandrashekar Rao’s criticism against him, Reddy said the separate Telangana State became a reality because of the efforts of the Congress MPs. The MPs had built pressure on the Congress high command and ensured that the separate statehood was granted. He said he had not agreed to become the chief minister for the sake of a separate statehood for Telangana.

The former Union Minister questioned Chandrashekar Rao as to why he had withdrawn fast on his won in 2009. “I asked him to reply to the question but Chandrashekar Rao had not done so,” he said.

He recalled that Chandrashekar Rao had called on him at his residence in Delhi on the same day when he met AICC president Sonia Gandhi. He met the AICC president along with his family members and later him (Jaipal Reddy) because Chandrashekar Rao knew that it was the Congress which had granted the separate statehood for Telangana, Jaipal Reddy pointed out.
