TS, AP lag behind in construction of toilets
The Telangana and Andhra Pradesh governments have fallen short of targets in construction of toilets under the Swachh Bharath Mission (Gramin) (SBM-G).
Hyderabad: The Telangana and Andhra Pradesh governments have fallen short of targets in construction of toilets under the Swachh Bharath Mission (Gramin) (SBM-G).
The Union government had fixed a target of construction of eight lakh toilets for Andhra Pradesh and six lakh toilets for Telangana for the year 2015-16.
According to official reports, so far only two lakh toilets have been completed in Andhra Pradesh while another 4 lakh are in progress. In Telangana, out of a target of six lakh, only 1.2 lakh toilets have been completed and another 1.32 lakh are in progress.
According to Swachh Bharat mission director Ramulu Naik, Rs 151 crore including the first installment of Centre’s share, has been released for toilets in AP while Rs 171 crore has been released for Telangana.
