Hyderabad: The weeklong bonanza of films, dances, and showcasing of talent by kids from across the globe ended on Friday with a glittering event at the Shilpa Kala Vedika as the 19th Golden Elephant International Children’s Film Festival drew to a close.

Governor E S L Narasimhan, who was the chief guest on the occasion, handed over trophies of golden elephant and cash awards for the International live-action category to winners from Russia and Netherlands. He also enthralled children with his cheerful mention of Cycle Dongs, and couplets in Hindi heralding the farewell to children who had gathered from all over the world.

Speaking on the occasion, Telangana Cinematography Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav said that Hyderabad has truly become a convention hub of the country in view of its infrastructure to accommodate events of this magnitude. Earlier a short video clipping on the glimpses of the 19th ICFFI produced by the Doordarshan Kendra and coppered by a German child delegate was screened. The audience who had filled up the entire venue was enthralled by spectacular folk dances by children from all States of India.

Media Advisor to the Telangana government K V Ramana Chary, who was the other Guest of Honour, assured the CFSI that if a favourable decision was made immediately, the Telangana Government was keen to provide land for construction of a complex for Children’s Film Society of India in Hyderabad.

“It would be a fitting tribute if the next edition of ICFFI is conducted at that complex,” he said. Chairman of the CFSI Mukesh Khanna called upon children to become physically fit and bring laurels to the country. Amidst cheers from kids Khanna announced that he would return as Shaktimaan, the popular serial which hit the small screen across India which was telecast by Doordarshan.

Congratulating the award winners of the 19th Edition of ICFFI, Khanna said that he will support all the efforts being made for construction of children cultural complex in Hyderabad.
