AP agriculture department's principal secretary has been directed by the Hyderabad High Court on Monday to present at the Court the steps taken to prevent the farmers suicides and crisis in the farm sector.
While hearing pleas on the lack of action from the authorities towards crisis-ridden farmers who are ending their lives in AP and Telangana as they were unable to face continuous crop failures and government apathy, the bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Dilip B Bhosale and Justice S V Bhatt directed the official to be present on Tuesday at the Court.
Justice Bhosale stated that even though both the states filed counters on the steps taken to help farmers, the question is whether the relief measures were reaching the farmers. He questioned as to why would the farmers commit suicide if the relief measures were reaching them. The bench has questioned the AP legal team's approach as both the advocate general (AG) and additional AG were not present in the Court during the hearing on Monday. The special counsel who needs to be present when the team is not also was absent resulting in no one being present at the Court to brief AP government's version.
Justice Bhosale, adding that the court cannot be taken for granted, said that while the Telangana government and its legal team were responding to the queries immediately, AP government is not responding in any way that just shows their negligent attitude towards the farmers.
