It appears that the TRS leadership is in jittery over the delay in the Centre clearing the proposal of the Telangana government seeking a special package for the development of backward areas in the State. New Delhi: It appears that the TRS leadership is in jittery over the delay in the Centre clearing the proposal of the Telangana government seeking a special package for the development of backward areas in the State. AS per section 94(2) of the AP Reorganisation Act, 2014, the Central government is expected to support the backward areas in the State through adequate funding.
In accordance with the provision, the State government submitted a proposal for a special assistance from the Centre for backward areas development. Again, on the advice of the NITI Aayog, a revised proposal restricting the special package to only two schemes - Mission Kakatiya and Telangana Water Grid - was submitted seeking Rs 30,571 crore over a period of four years during 2015-19.
The Centre then sought DPRs (detailed project reports) of the two and the government’s preparedness for the launch. The State government informed the Centre that these two
programmes were essential to undo the injustice done to Telangana and submitted the details sought by the Centre. It pleaded for an initial installment of at least Rs 1,000 crore.
A high-level delegation of the Telangana government headed by two Deputy Chief Ministers K Srihari and Mahmood Ali, along with two Ministers, E Rajender and P Srinivas Reddy and the TRS MPs, met Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Thursday urging him to consider the same.
Later, the delegation met Union Minister for State for Commerce and Industry, Nirmala Sitaraman, seeking her intervention in establishing a Turmeric Spice Park in Nizamabad district. The State government had purchased and registered sufficient land in favour of the Horticulture Department and sent a detailed DPR to the Ministry, they explained to the Minister.
The delegation also appealed to Union Minister for Consumer Affairs Ram Vilas Paswan for an additional allotment of 80,000 MT of rice per month over and above the allotment under the National Food Security Act as the government was giving low cost rice to 2.6 crore families at the rate of six kilos per each person of the family.
Also sought were increased allocation of 9,500 MT of rice per month for social welfare hostels, increase in mandi labour charges to Rs 20 per quintal, in custom milling charges from Rs 15 per quintal to Rs 30 per quintal of paddy for raw rice and from Rs 25 to Rs 50 per quintal of paddy for boiled rice and continuance of levy at 20 per cent.
