Hyderabad: The armed forces and technology have been strategic partners in developing the defence capability of the nation and the graduating officers are to take up the challenge to harness latest defence technologies and ensure that the Indian Army benefits from it, said President Pranab Mukherjee while addressing graduating students of the Military College of Electronics and Mechanical Engineering (MCEME) in Secunderabad on Saturday. He was the chief guest at the 88th convocation ceremony of MCEME.
He asked the graduating officers to adapt to latest developments in technology for use by the defence forces by accelerating the pace of military innovation. The President gave away awards to the 96th Degree Engineering (DE) & 24th Technical Entry Scheme (TES) course.
The Indian Army has been the torchbearer of several non-military innovations, the President said and added that both the graduating courses have undertaken projects involving state-of-the-art technologies, ranging from biometrics to solar power. The spin-offs have contributed both the military and civil society immensely. "The history of warfare bears testimony to the decisive role of technology on the outcome of military conflicts. To maintain an edge in military capability over potential opponents, constant efforts are required to upgrade technology.”
Among the award winners, Lt Adil Maqbool Khan, TES-24 was awarded the GOC-in-C, ARTRAC Trophy and apart from bagging two more awards in different categories. Capt Neeraj Tiwari, of Degree 96, Capt Pawan Gulia, Degree 96, Capt Kshitij Mishra, Degree 96, Lt Vivek Singh TES-24, Lt Anuj Yadav, TES-24 received the awards from the President of India.
MCEME as an important institution. It has been the training ground for the Corps of EME imparting skills to jawans to Bachelors of Technology and Masters of Technology Courses for the officers, he added. The President said he was happy to know that on Army Day this year, the Prime Minister presented awards for excellence to eight projects of Indian Army, of which four were from MCEME.
The President also commended the graduating class for undertaking projects involving state-of-the-art technologies, ranging from biometrics to solar power.
The awards ceremony was graced by the Governor of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh E S L Narasimhan.
Lt Gen Gurmukh Singh, Commandant MCEME mentioned that Pranab Mukherjee is the third President to visit MCEME . Prior to him, Dr Rajendra Prasad and Dr S Radha Krishnan had visited the College in years 1955 and 1964 respectively.
