Hyderabad: In a significant decision, Infosys, the country’s second largest software firm, has decided to develop its Pocharam campus as one of the first corporate campuses in India fully run by green power. The campus will be formally inaugurated in February.

According to a statement, the Pocharam campus, the second in Hyderabad, will have 6.6 MW capacity solar PV power plant, in addition to the rooftop solar plant already set up with a capacity of 0.6 MW. Accordingly, the total capacity of the plant would be 7.2 MW, which will be synchronised to the grid, the statement added.

"Our team, led by Ramadas Kamath, continues to set new standards in our commitments to reduce electricity consumption. Our beautiful Hyderabad campus is another great example of this commitment," Infosys CEO and Managing Director Vishal Sikka said.

Sikka was in Hyderabad and met Telangana IT minister KT Rama Rao at the T-Hub on Monday. KTR told the media that the company is planning to inaugurate the campus formally in February after the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections.

"(Vishal) Sikka has invited us to inaugurate their largest campus at Pocharam in Hyderabad. We would request Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao to unveil the IT policy of the state also at that time," KTR said. Pocharam facility is spread over 450 acres and under phase I, it has 16,000 seats. The construction of Phase II is underway with a planned capacity of 25,000 people.

Some more area has been reserved to construct Phase III as well. The Pocharam campus is being built with a total investment of Rs 1,250 crore.
