Hyderabad: About 20 big infrastructure and development projects like Swachh Bharat, integrated traffic project, bus rapid transport system and Miyapur bus terminal taken up in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation limits at a cost of over Rs 5,000 crore are still in primitive stages. A few of these projects were grounded in 2012 in the united Andhra Pradesh.
According to information obtained under the RTI Act, the bus rapid transport system was taken up at a cost of Rs 573 crore. After spending Rs 22 crore, the government had put it in cold storage as it had taken up the Metro Rail project.
Swachh Bharat programme was taken up at a cost of Rs 200 crore. The government had sanctioned Rs 445 crore for automation and optimum utilisation of energy for streetlights scheme and Rs 100 crore for the Miyapur bus terminal project. Similarly Rs 813 crore for Greater Hyderabad development project was also earmarked but still these prestigious projects had failed to take off.
Lok Satta General Secretary (GHMC wing) Sambi Reddy said the information sought under the RTI Act revealed that the Hyderabad integrated traffic project was started in 2012 with an amount of Rs 66.5 crore and was to be completed within two years. “But the project is still incomplete,” he said.
The information sought under the RTI Act makes it clear that the TRS government has a comprehensive road project with an outlay of Rs 4,000 crore but nobody knows when the plan will be implemented. Even the much-publicised Harita Haram project to plant one crore trees could not be achieved this year though a fund of Rs 5 crore was readily available with the GHMC. Officials claim that due to poor rainfall, it could not be taken up as planned.
According to Lok Satta, the TRS government spent nearly Rs 10 crore for a Samagra Survey project, but till date the report had not been made public. The government spent Rs 8 crore just for publicity of the Swachh Bharat programme and thereafter promised to release Rs 200 crore. But till date, not a single rupee is given to the GHMC to implement the same, he said.
Among other projects announced by the Telangana state government which are yet to take off are Mega City plan at the cost of Rs 21.85 crore, fish market (Rs 10 crore), community development project (Rs 13.45 crore), Batasingaram park and Mangalpally facility (Rs 55 crore).
