Hyderabad: A two judge bench of the High court at Hyderabad comprising acting Chief Justice Dilip Bhosale and Justice S V Bhatt on Tuesday stayed final decisions in the selection process initiated by the 4 power corporations till January 20.

The bench made the order in a writ plea filed by Challa Narasimha Reddy and others questioning the action of the said Corporations in seeking to fill the posts of Assistant Executive Engineers only by those hailing from Telagana State.

These power companies amended their service regulations to ensure that all the posts in these corporations were to be made available only to persons who are from the State of Telangana . The Additional Advocate General for Telangana N Ramchander Rao, arguing on behalf of the State of Telangana, stated that keeping in view the Presidential Orders only, these amendments were made, so that persons from the State of Telangana can be appointed.

K Lakshmi Narasimha, Counsel for the Petitioners, contended that in the first place the said Presidential Order is not at all applicable to the present power corporations which were created under the Companies Act, He pointed out that Presidential Order is applicable only to government employees and not to the corporations created under any statute.

He also pointed out the Parliament alone is competent to make such reservations in favour of local candidates. G Vidyasagar, Senior Counsel for the companies, informed the court that the marks obtained in the written examinations alone would be the basis for the selections.
