3,605 buses to be operated for Medaram Jatara
As many as 3,605 RTC buses would be operated from 51 places to Medaram on the occasion of Sammakka Sarakka jatara to be held from February 17 to 19, said Transport Minister Dr P Mahender Reddy.
​Karimnagar: As many as 3,605 RTC buses would be operated from 51 places to Medaram on the occasion of Sammakka Sarakka jatara to be held from February 17 to 19, said Transport Minister Dr P Mahender Reddy.
The Minister conducted a review meeting with the officials on the RTC arrangements for Medaram jatara at the Regional Manager office in the district headquarters here on Monday. Earlier, he inaugurated 17 new city buses in circus ground in the morning.
Later speaking to reporters, Mahender Reddy informed that a bus stand in 50 acres of land along with all facilities, including drinking water and toilets, would be set up in Medaram. A total of 29 queue lines would be setup at different places.
Informing that Rs 1.92 crore was allocated to provide facilities to commuters, he said they were expecting about 28 lakh devotees to visit the tribal fare. Buses belonging to 10 districts would be used to transport passengers to Medaram and buses would be operated for a week.
To avoid traffic jams, they made arrangements for one-way traffic system and devotees, who board buses at the jatara place, would be issued tickets at Thadwai to avoid swelling of traffic at Medaram. Corporation’ mobile teams would tour in 20 jeeps to monitor traffic, he informed.
A total of 11,000 RTC staff including 150 officers, 350 observers, 8,000 drivers and conductors and 700 other staff would be engaged in jatara duty. Finance and Civil Supplies Minister Eatala Rajender said that facilities in bus stands have been enhanced in the State after the formation of Telangana. Besides Karimnagar, all bus stations should be modernised, he said.
