Terming the BJP-led NDA government as pro-rich catering only to the needs of the corporate houses, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar

Karimnagar: Terming the BJP-led NDA government as pro-rich catering only to the needs of the corporate houses, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar alleged that that Union government was implementing anti-workers and anti-farmers policies.

He said that the present BJP governments at the Centre and also the TRS government in the State were implementing policies which were detrimental to the interests of the poor.

Addressing a public meeting organised on the occasion of first state-level conference of Telangana Agricultural Workers at the premises of the Arts College here on Friday, Manik Sarkar said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his election campaign in 2014 promised that he would take steps to prevent the suicides of farmers, provide jobs to unemployed youth and take steps to protect the interests of working class and poor but went back on his promises after coming to power.

While the innocent farmers were ending their lives abruptly due agricultural crisis, unemployment has become a burning issue, he lamented.

He said that while the prices of essential commodities were skyrocketing, production of steel, iron ore, cement and mining was gradually going down. Exports from the country have also been coming down.

As a result, scores of workers were losing their jobs. He lashed out at the Union government for cutting down allocations in its last budget on education, health, agriculture, irrigation, mother and children, rural development and housing sectors.

The Tripura Chief Minister said though there was a budget deficit of Rs 5 lakh crore, the Centre sanctioned Rs 5 lakh crore worth benefits to corporate companies without collecting taxes from them.

Manik Sarkar said that during his campaign last year, Modi made it clear that he would not tolerate corruption in any form but failed to take action against his corrupt Cabinet colleagues and BJP Chief Ministers. He said that all sections of the society had extended support to the nation-wide strike of the working class on September 2, 2015 and this was an indication that there was a lot of social and political unrest in the countrY.

Panicked by the growing unrest among the people, the BJP government has adopted a ‘divide and rule’ policy to continue its anti-people policies destroying the secular fabric of the country.

He said that during the last 20 months, there were nearly 500 incidents of attacks against the minorities by RSS, VHP, Bajrang Dal activists. It was highly dangerous, he warned.

The Tripura Chief Minister also criticised the TRS government, for implementing pro-rich policies which were detrimental to the interests of the farmers and the poor.
