Hyderabad: Parties across the political spectrum, including TRS' ally MIM, have condemned the state government's move to shut down the official website goir.tela ngana.gov.in that hosts government orders. Telangana BJP president G Kishan Reddy condemned the government's move and said the transparency was important governance prerequisite. “The TRS government was trying to kill the transparency by bringing out hundreds of GOs which never see the light of the day.

At a time when the technology is making governments more accessible, the government must not hide information from people," he said. A senior leader of MIM said, "Closing down the official website with the excuse that people are making use of these government orders to file cases in courts sounds irrational. However, if someone is bent upon getting the copy, he would certainly obtain it. I believe that failure of the advocate-general in defending the state government has prompted it to come up with such a detrimental idea.”

Bachao Telangana Mission president Nagam Janardhan Reddy said the state government has been strategically hiding the facts from the public domain. "How can the government decide on providing access only to officials, and that too only to certain departments? I demand chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao to be transparent. Else, I will be forced to explore legal options to expose the government's undemocratic attitude," he said and added, "It has come to my notice that government has been extending undue favours to some contractors by giving access to the e-procurement website.

The left parties took a strong objection to the move. The state secretary of CPI Chada Venkat Reddy asked the government to spell out reasons for denying access to the official website. The city unit secretary of CPI (M) M Srinivas demanded an explanation from the government on the controversy. Meanwhile, a four-member committee headed by the chief secretary Rajiv Sharma is appointed to prepare a new GO policy by making suitable amendments to the existing one, which was adopted by the then AP government.

The State IT Secretary Jayesh Ranjan, the Principal Secretary to Animal Husbandry department, Suresh Chanda and Finance Secretary Siva Shankar are other members of the committee. Speaking to The Hans India, the IT secretary said, "State government is planning for a new ‘GO Policy’ and it will replace the present one in ten days.” A senior official from General Administration Department said the existing policy allowed a lot of ‘unnecessary’ business like issuing routine (RT) government orders such the sanction of leaves and the release of small amounts for daily expenses and visit of officials to outstation.

"95 per cent of the GOs issued every year are only RT orders and the rest were related to policy decisions and execution of orders," he explained. He said the new policy is aimed at reducing the burden on each department regarding the release of orders for each and every small issue and streamlining the process for issuance of orders.
