Aimed at luring voters from BC (Backward Classes) communities towards the TRS in the ensuing Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation, the ruling party on Tuesday welcomed Congress senior leader and former minister Basavaraj Saraiah into the party fold.
Hyderabad: Aimed at luring voters from BC (Backward Classes) communities towards the TRS in the ensuing Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation, the ruling party on Tuesday welcomed Congress senior leader and former minister Basavaraj Saraiah into the party fold.
Saraiah along with his supporters and close aides took the party primary membership from Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao at the camp office here. In fact, the ruling TRS resumed allurements to leaders in the Opposition parties ahead of the Greater Warangal and Khammam Municipal Corporation elections.
Sources said Saraiah has been offered a post of chairman in one of the 20 corporations that are being filled after the budget session. He was also given assurance that his son would be given TRS ticket to contest in the ensuing Warangal municipal elections.
Saraiah, who lost election to TRS candidate Konda Surekha from the Warangal East Assembly constituency in 2014 elections, is considered to be highly influential in the urban areas of Warangal. The three-time MLA was BC welfare minister between 2009 and 2014 in the then Congress government in united AP.
