Signal free junctions in Hyderabad soon

Hyderabad: Willing to offer delight for all commuters of Hyderabad to ride on roads, the traffic police have taken up Junction Development Project. The project will kick start soon and will be completed in a phased manner, sources said. On Saturday, City Police Commissioner M Mahender Reddy asked the traffic police to take necessary measures in creating hassle-free roads for the commuters and also free the pavements for the pedestrians, who are now forced to walk on the roads due to the pavement encroachments.

The traffic police have decided to create free lefts at all the 125 junctions in Hyderabad city, to make all the junctions signal free by providing ‘U’ turns that reduce blockages at junctions, facilitating continuous movement of vehicles without stopping on the city roads, relocating the bus shelters away from the junctions and making better arrangements to the public transport users and also marking signs and zebra crossings at all the junctions.

As a first phase, the project would be implemented in the west zone of Hyderabad, that covers, Jubilee Hills, Punjagutta, Rasoolpura, Orissa Island junction, Ameerpet and surrounding areas. “In west zone, there are five police stations, under which four junctions with highest vehicle frequency and traffic jams will be selected and developmental works will be carried out accordingly with the coordination of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and other departments,” said a senior police officer of Traffic department.

The officer shared that the aim of the project was to create signal-free junctions minimising the inconvenience to the public and reduce the travelling time for commuters by taking necessary measures.
