Hyderabad: Justice Sanjay Kumar of the High Court at Hyderabad took serious note of an advocate being forcibly denied entry into University of Hyderabad (UoH) campus by the security staff. He wondered whether the university was still open to all or it had become a fortress.

The judge made these remarks while hearing counsel Dr Gunaratan from Maharashtra who complained to the judge about the highhanded behaviour of university security official Ramulu against him. The counsel had gone to the campus to meet his client students. Dr Gunaratan told the judge how he had tried frantically to contact the Commissioner of Police to intervene.

He produced before the judge the copy of his complaint to the police on the incident. After going through the contents, the judge questioned the behaviour of the security official against an advocate. He directed the counsels for university and the Home Department to see that this sort of incident did not recur and the advocate’s right to meet his client be upheld. The judge adjourned the matters relating to UoH to April 18 for hearing.
