Hyderabad: The Telangana government decided to increase the compensation for those who died of electrocution due to the negligence of the Energy department. While the compensation was Rs 50,000 in erstwhile undivided Andhra Pradesh, the Telangana government had increased it to Rs 2 lakh. Following representations from people, the government increased it to Rs 4 lakh for victims above 16 years. For those below 16 years, the amount has been raised to Rs 2 lakh from Rs 1 lakh earlier.

The compensation amounts would be paid only after getting a verification from Assistant Director of Electricity Department (ADE - Operations), who would ascertain whether the death was due to the negligence of the energy department. In order to claim compensation, the family members need to get a death certificate, a FIR copy, a post mortem report and a post- mortem panchnama copy.
