Warangal: Warangal district which has been emerging as an educational hub in the state is likely to get prestigious Indian Institute of Management (IIM) next year. Dy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari told presspersons here on Sunday that the state government was making efforts for the establishment of an IIM in the state.

The district leaders have appealed to Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao to locate the institute in Warangal. As neighbouring Andhra Pradesh got an IIM, the Telangana government has also been pursuing for the same in the state. If everything goes well, the institute would be established here soon as the CM has special focus on developing the district on educational front.

Srihari, who holds education portfolio said in accordance with the CM’s promise a veterinary college, an agriculture college and a branch of Hyderabad Public School would also start functioning from the ensuing academic year. For the veterinary college, permission from the Veterinary Council of India was sought. Within the next 15 days, the permission is expected and the college would be established at Mamnoor.

The Dy CM said his government has also planned to spend around Rs 5,000 crore towards the construction of buildings for 240 residential schools (Gurukul Schools) across the district. The construction cost for each school would be Rs 20 crore.

The construction of the residential schools would be completed in a phased manner in the next three years. In Warangal district, a total of 25 Gurukul Schools have been sanctioned, of them 11 are reserved for Scheduled Castes, six for Scheduled Tribes and four for minorities and four girls. The establishment of residential schools would help provide employment to 7,000 people, he added.

However, there has been a delay in establishing Sainik School for which required infrastructure is being provided. The Sainik School would start functioning from the next academic year.

Srihari further informed that it is decided to start teaching English medium in 400 schools from the current academic year in Warangal district on an experimental basis. About 1,500 teachers have been trained with the help of English and Foreign Languages University in Hyderabad.

Responding to a query on the regulation of fees in private schools, the Srihari said notices have been issued to 162 schools across the state following violations. “There is a need to control the collection of fees in private schools and we would do it,” he added.
