Hyderabad: In order to improve their response-time during emergencies and also to create hassle-free roads for the citizens of Hyderabad, the city police are adopting new, innovative technologies that are used across many highly-populated and developed cities, in the world.

In the recent week-long tour of the United States by the senior officials of Telangana State Police Department, solutions were identified for irking issues such as parking, dissatisfactory-response during emergencies and lack of surveillance on anti-social elements.

A team headed by Telangana Director General of Police Anurag Sharma accompanied by Principal Secretary (Home) Rajiv Trivedi, Hyderabad City Police Commissioner Mahender Reddy, Additional Commissioner (Traffic) Jitender and M Ramesh Reddy S P (Intelligence) visited New York and Washington to study the advanced technological interventions.

The officials visited New York City Police Department (NYPD), Department of Transportation of New York State, Real Time Crime Centre and Fusion Technology Centre in New York apart from the Metropolitan Police headquarters at Washington D C.
Traffic management

As part of their study on traffic management, the officers visited some of the major streets and junctions in New York City to study and assimilate the technology implemented by the New York Police and Transport Department. The officers will soon be getting the automatic traffic enforcement vehicles to the city.

The vehicles equipped with CC Cameras on the top, will automatically detect parking violations, over-speeding and irregular driving based on sensors, and generate e-challans. The automated parking machines that are to be brought to the city will give a send-off to the parking mafia and bring huge relief to the public. The systems will generate a ticket mentioning the price, time and validity for parking of a vehicle, based on the available space.

“A commuter would have to chose the empty space available in the parking lot and obtain a ticket by entering the vehicle registration number and paying the money,” said IT Inspector T Srinath Reddy, who was also part of the tour. “In order to reduce traffic congestions, a pedestrian system for crossing at junctions and a ‘street and multilevel’ parking system would be implemented in Hyderabad, along the likes of New York and Washington D C,” said Srinath Reddy.

Safety and Security
In order to learn about the mechanism of the CC Cameras, the officers visited the well known Broadway Street and the highly popular Times Square, which has the highest footfall, round the clock.

“By visiting the busy areas, we understood the CC Camera surveillance mechanism. A Real Time Crime Centre has to be established, where the field officers get 24/7 support regarding data of criminals and suspects. Though we already have the integrated software that allows our men to get details of the suspects, we have to integrate data pertaining to every department and citizen,” said the Inspector.
