Nizamabad: District Collector Yogita Rana on Saturday conducted an inquiry into the death of two expectant mothers at the Government General Hospital (GGH) in March and April during child-birth. The kin alleged that the deaths were due to negligence on the party of the GGH staff. Tadem Jyothi of Pocharam village in Yedapalli mandal was admitted to GGH on February 29.

She delivered twins after undergoing caesarean section on March 1. The newborns are doing well. Later, she developed serious complications and died. The Collector studied the case sheet of Jyothi. Her husband Srinu and mother Sayamma who attended the inquiry, informed the Collector that they were asked to get scanning done at a private diagnostic centre and the gynecology incharge did not visit the patient even once after delivery.

The Collector also questioned the medical staff who attended to the case, about the medicare provided to Jyothi. In the second case, Govuri Swaroopa of Yedapalli died at the GGH on April 14 after developing serious complications during her second delivery. It was alleged that the hospital authorities got the scanning done at a private diagnostic centre twice.

Her husband Ramesh told the Collector that he was asked to purchase all the life saving medicines from outside. He also said the GGH authorities did not provide an ambulance to take the body of his wife to home. After studying the case sheet of Swaroopa and questioning the medical staff, the Collector issued a show-cause notice to gynecology incharge Dr Rajeswari for dereliction of duty.

Action would be taken against her after the inquiry, if found guilty, said the Collector, who sought further information from the medical officer of Yedapalli PHC pertaining to the two cases. Speaking on the occasion, Yogita Rana directed the GGH Superintendent to provide quality medicare to patients visiting the district headquarters hospital.

Patients should not be referred to private diagnostic centers for in future. The attendants of patients should not be asked to get medicines from outside. The case sheets of patients should be maintained perfectly. Any laxity on the part of GGH staff in provision of medicare to people would not be tolerated, the Collector said.

DM&HO Venkat, GGH Superintendent Narendra Kumar, DHCS Srinivas Prasad, Medical College principal Nirmala, DRDA Project Director Chandramohan Reddy and others attended the inquiry.
