Adilabad: As part of the Jana Maithri programme (people’s friendly policing ) District Superintendent of Police Vikram Singh Duggal has been making a whirlwind tour of villages infested by Maoists in the district to establish friendly relations with the public.

On Monday, he paid a visit to the remote villages of Rompalli, Tothiguda, Gundala, Mangi, Tokkiguda and enquired about their problems. He met P Jaithu, the maternal uncle of the Maoist Shoban and urged him to persuade his nephew to surrender to the police.

The SP also went on foot to Gundala village and met Kova Lakshmi, the sister of the Maoist Shoban and presented her with new clothes. Later, he had lunch with the people of Mangi village. He also took a few doctors with him to attend to the sick in the villages.

Duggal selected eight men and three women who cleared the preliminary test for recruitment in the police department for the free police training camp.

He advised the villagers to enroll their wards in government schools. He told them that the police department was conducting the Jana maithri programme to improve its relationship with the people and strengthen the bond with them.

The Superintendent of Police said that it the Maoist menace has to be eradicated, the people and the police should maintain friendly relationship with each other.

Each villager should know the police officer by name to improve their relationship. He told the police to intensify patrolling in the border areas. He also distributed cricket and volley ball kits to the youth in the villages.

The people of the villages expressed their happiness over the tour of the SP and his team.
Additional Superintendent of Police T Panasa Reddy and Bellampalli DSP A Ramana Reddy were also present.
