In all likelihood, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and his Maharashtra counterpart Devendra Fadnavis are expected to take a call only after the apex committee meeting scheduled for July first week, involving both the CMs and top irrigation officials.
Hyderabad: With the respective central design organisations (CDOs) of Telangana and Maharashtra approving the hydrological and structural designs for the projects that would be taken up on the river Godavari under the Kaleswaram-Pranahitha Lift Irrigation (earlier known as Pranahita – Chevella) Scheme, both the States are readying to ink final agreements by July end this year.
In all likelihood, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and his Maharashtra counterpart Devendra Fadnavis are expected to take a call only after the apex committee meeting scheduled for July first week, involving both the CMs and top irrigation officials.
Telangana irrigation officials said the Maharashtra central design organisation had given its consent to the designs presented by the Telangana government for the construction of Tummidihatti project on Pranahitha (Godavari’s tributary) and Sundilla – Annaram under Kaleswaram project on the Godavari.
The FRL (Full Reservoir Level) of the Tummidihatti project has been fixed at 148 metres, which was finalised during the meeting between K Chandrashekar Rao and Fadnavis in Mumbai earlier this year.
Taking into consideration the request from the neighbouring State, irrigation officials of the two States have prepared structural designs for the Medigadda project at 100, 101 and 101.5 metres FRL to mitigate submergence in the border areas between the two States.
Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao’s OSD (Officer on Special Duty) Sridhar Rao Deshpande told The Hans India that all issues regarding utilisation of water, submergence and projects designs had been analysed by CDO officials in detail during the three-week long
deliberations held at Nasik, while the decision on the height of Medigadda would be taken after consulting the respective Chief Ministers.
As works on Medigadda, Sundilla and Annaram project have already been taken up, the official said that after the approval at the level of the respective Chief Minister, the Telangana government would request the Centre in writing to accord national project status to Kaleswaram project and seek funds for early completion of the project.
It may be recalled that the K Chandrashekar Rao government had redesigned the Rs 80,000-crore Pranahitha–Chevella project, which has been renamed as Kaleswaram–Pranahitha aimed at creating new ayacut and quenching the thirst of people in five backward districts of Telangana.
