Warangal: Rich tributes were paid to Telangana ideologue K Jayashankar and his contribution to separate Telangana movement was recalled here on Tuesday, marking his fifth death anniversary.

ZP chairperson G Padma, GWMC Mayor N Narender, MPs V Lakshmikantha Rao and P Dayakar, MLAs D Vinay Bhasker and B Shanker Naik and others offered floral tributes to the statue of Jayashankar at Ekasila Park in Hanamkonda.

Speaking on the occasion, the Mayor informed that ‘Smruti Vanam’ was being developed with Rs 43.65 lakhs at Ekasila Park in memory of Jayashankar and an auditorium, museum and library would be set up to propagate his ideals.

Jayashankar was the backbone of Telangana movement. Till his last breath he worked relentlessly for the cause and guided Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao in achieving statehood and brought people of all sections together to fight for the separate State, Mayor Narender added.

Brahmana Sangham members Valluri Pavan Kumar, Vasu Dulipala and others garlanded the statue of Jayashankar. At the district collectorate, Joint Collector Prashanth J Patil and DRO K Shobha offered floral tributes to Jayashankar portrait. Mayor Narender also attended a programme by Swarnakara Sangham at Vishwakarma Street in Warangal and garlanded Jayashankar’s statue.

At KU SDLCE the Director Prof Ch Dinesh Kumar offered floral tributes to Jayashankar portrait. Jayashankar strived for spread of higher education in Telangana and highlighted discrimination of Telangana by Seemandhra rulers, he said.
