Judges of the subordinate judiciary in Telangana on Sunday threatened to quit their posts en masse if the appointment of the freshly appointed Andhra-origin district judges is not cancelled.

Hyderabad: Judges of the subordinate judiciary in Telangana on Sunday threatened to quit their posts en masse if the appointment of the freshly appointed Andhra-origin district judges is not cancelled.

The judges under the banner of Telangana Judges Association, led by K Ravinder Reddy, took out a huge procession along with judicial officers from Gun Park to Raj Bhavan.

Later, an eight-member delegation met Governor ESL Narasimhan and made a strong case against the appointment of non-locals as district judges.

Reddy said that the provisional allocation list for district judges announced in May this year shows that district judges belonging to Andhra origin were intentionally allocated to Telangana to deprive Telangana judges the prospects of promotion.

He alleged that the recruiting authority has kept no vacancy in all cadres in Telangana judiciary by filling the posts with Andhra-origin judicial officers. “In AP, however, the posts have been kept vacant for their future generations,” he added.

The association leaders said that the judicial officials were still feeling that they are working under Andhra Pradesh High Court and not under the High Court of both states created after the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh,” he said. Reddy said the Governor responded positively to their grievances and assured to take action.
