Hyderabad: The State government was committed to completing four irrigation projects in Mahbubnagar district by the end of Kharif season besides completing the Palamur Lift Irrigation Project (PLIS), said Irrigation Minister Harish Rao.

Speaking to the media during his visit to Muraridoddi village in Mahbubnagar on Sunday, Harish Rao said the government was spending Rs 3,600 crore to complete these four projects to irrigate four lakh acres in the district. He also asserted that they would successfully complete all the projects despite a ‘jealous’ Opposition coming in the way.

The Minister said the government would take steps to complete the projects according to schedule. With the completion of Palamur lift scheme and other projects, the entire district would turn green through continuous supply of irrigation waters to crops, said Harish Rao. “We can get plenty of water for agriculture once we complete the pending projects. Though we are working hard for this, the Opposition is obstructing the projects merely for political gains,” said the Minister.

Deputy Speaker Padma Devender Reddy also lashed out at the Opposition for trying to sabotage the projects. Despite knowing about submergence of lands under the projects, the Opposition was mischievously provoking the farmers against the projects, she said and added that the formation of new districts was meant for administrative convenience and not for the benefit of a few people.
