Nizamabad: A police constable Salman Raj, posted at the Mahila Police Station in the town on Friday, who was caught during the check on drunken driving, created a big commotion by abusing the Circle Inspector of Police Shekar Reddy and constables and also tried to attack them.

The incident took place at Kanteshwar locality in the town during the night. He said that he was a police constable and they had no business to stop him and conduct the breath test.

On receiving information, the Three-Town Police rushed to the spot and took Salman Raj into custody. He also abused the reporters, who came to cover the incident in foul language and threatened them that he would break their cameras.

Later, speaking to the media, Station House Officer Srihari said that Salman was booked under various sections. Though Salman was suspended from duties several times in the past for misbehavior, he never mended his ways, Srihari lamented.

The Excise Department and the Road Transport Authority (RTA) officials jointly held a special drive to nab drivers who were drunk. In view of the death of an eight-year-old girl Ramya in Hyderabad in a road mishap involving drunk driving, the two departments have intensified their search on drunk driving.
