Bandh successful, claims ABVP

Hyderabad: The one-day Telangana educational institutions’ bandh, called by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), on students’ issues on Tuesday was by and large successful, and the student wing of the saffron party condemned the State government for arresting 1,200 activists of the ABVP.

In a release by the ABVP State office, State secretary Antati Giriprasad condemned the state government for arresting the activists instead of finding solutions to students’ problems. He dubbed the style of functioning of the police as that of the Razakars.

Unmindful of the pressure from the police, the ABVP activists saw to it that the bandh was successful, Giriprasad said. He deplored the government’s action of sending SMSes, making phone calls to private and corporate high schools and colleges asking them not to take part in the bandh.

He demanded the government to prove its sincerity in solving problems in education sector and bring about the tuition fee control act, conduct a comprehensive probe into paper leak in Eamcet-II and punish the guilty.

The state secretary further wanted the government to fill the B-category seats in engineering colleges through online, increase the scholarship amount three times in tune with the inflation and issue DSC notification to fill vacant teacher posts.
