Warangal: In a bid to keep a watch on the saplings planted during the ongoing Haritha Haram programme in Warangal district, the administration is keen to adopt geo-tagging technology.

Geo-tagging is a form of geospatial metadata that adds geographical identification such as a geotagged photograph or video and websites.

District Collector Vakati Karuna said on Monday that efforts are on to geo-tag the data of saplings planted by various departments in the district.

During a video conference from Hyderabad, the technical expert of the forest department, Balakrishna, explained the method of geo-tagging the saplings’ location on smart phones.

The Collector directed the officials to complete the geo-tagging within three days. For the purpose, the technical staff has provided different user names and passwords to each department.

Later, reviewing the progress of plantation drive, she made a note to the officials of the horticulture, excise and irrigation departments to speed up to achieve their target. In all, the district has a target of plantation of four crore saplings.

Joint Collector Prashanth J Patil, Chief Planning Officer Ramchander Rao, DFO (social forestry) Srinivas and DWMA Project Director Sekhar Reddy were present.

Meanwhile, it’s learnt that the legislature Committee on Women, Child, Specially Challenged and Old-age People will visit Sishu Gruha and Anganwadi centres on Tuesday.
