Hyderabad: The Telangana Congress party has decided to take on the government head on and launch a campaign explaining to the people how the government was making false claims in regard to irrigation projects like Tummidi Hatti.

The TPCC president N Uttam Kumar Reddy who released the minutes of the technical meeting of Pranahita Chevella Sujala Sravanti Project held at Hyderabad on August 16, 2014, said that minutes clearly indicate the officials consisting of engineers of Telangana and Maharashtra had in fact agreed for a geo-technical investigation of the barrage on March 24, 2014.

Later at the August 16 meeting, all plans, records of flood data, analysis and back water study report obtained from Central Water and Power Research Station (CWPRS) were studied and chief engineer informed that the FRL of the barrage was arrived to divert 160TMC of water in 90 days.

Reddy said this involved diversion of about 1800 TMC of water per day. He said initial simulation studies of the project revealed that for successfully diverting the 160 TMC of water, the FRL of the barrage arrived was 154.

However, to keep the submergence area to the barest minimum, barrage FRL of 152 was proposed due to which minimum land submergence of about 1852 acres falls in Maharashtra. He said the chief engineer further informed that number of days discharge exceeding 583 Cusecs at the project site is only 77 at 75 percent dependability due to which it is imperative to go with FRL 152.

The minutes of the meeting were signed by Chief Engineer Dr BR Ambedkar Pranahita Chevella project B Hari Ram and Chief Engineer WRD Nagpur Rasik M Chouhan. Uttam Kumar Reddy said KCR had mortgaged the interests of Telangana by deciding to shift the main project from Tummidi Hatti to Medigadda.

This move, he said was detrimental to the interests of Telangana. He said the TPCC would hold a discussion with irrigation experts on Friday at Gandhi Bhavan over this issue to create awareness among people on how the 'Maha pact' will administer a deathblow to the State.

"We have invited irrigation experts for the discussion. We will expose the flaws in the pact," he added. "By shifting the project to Medigadda, the State government has increased the capital cost by Rs 50,000 crore," Reddy said.
