Hyderabad: Following a strong opposition from all quarters and legal hurdles against the Government Order (GO)123 issued for quick land procurement from land owners for public purpose, the Telangana State government has decided to bring its own Land Acquisition Act.

The government is drafting its own version of the “Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition and Resettlement (TS Amendment) Bill, 2016.” officials said. The bill is expected to be passed in the ensuing monsoon session of the Assembly, scheduled to begin from September 20.

To prepare the draft bill, the government has constituted a committee headed by Special Chief Secretary (Revenue) C Pradeep Chandra. Law Secretary A Santhosh Reddy and Special Secretary to Irrigation S K Joshi are the members and State Advocate General K Rama Krishna Reddy has been appointed as special invitee in the committee.

The committee will examine the Acts made by Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Rajasthan, Goa and others State governments. Land acquisition taken up recently by the TS government for Mallannasagar, Palamur-Ranga Reddy project, Dindi and Pranahita-Kaleswaram projects and other irrigation projects has hit legal hurdles. Officials said the necessary provisions would be inducted in the act for speedy acquisition of land for all kinds of projects being taken up by the government.
