LIBERATION DAY ROW

New Delhi: Union Minister of State for Labour and Employment B Dattatreya has hit out at the Telangana State government for its refusal to celebrate September 17 as a liberation day officially.

Recalling the sacrifices of people and the Police Action against the fascist Nizam Rule in Hyderabad State, Dattatreya said here on Friday that it was unfortunate that the State government was refusing to concede the public demand while Karnataka and Maharashtra governments' were celebrating the same officially every year. Even Goa was celebrating its liberation day in a big way and there was nothing wrong in celebrating the liberation day if one was nationalistic, he said.

Criticising the TRS leadership for toeing the Congress line and in trying to appease the Muslim minorities by not acknowledging September 17 as the liberation day, he said the TRS too would meet the fate of the Congress in the State. The BJP would take the message of nationalism to every village in the State and ask people to celebrate the day, he added. Dattatreya said that BJP national president Amit Shah would address a public meeting in Warangal on Saturday (Sept 17) to mark the day.
