Hyderabad: TRS will challenge the dominance of the All-India Majlis- e- Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) in Old City during 2019 Assembly elections.

According to Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, TRS would emerge as a strong contender to the Majlis party as people are happy with the developmental schemes taken up by the ruling party.

In an interaction with select media on Tuesday, KCR said that they had got a survey conducted recently by an independent agency which clearly indicates that the electoral battle between the TRS and the AIMIM would be a close fight.

So far the winning margin of MIM and other parties used to be about 15 percent but in the next elections it would come down to 3 percent to 4 percent.

During last elections, MIM had won Charminar, Chandrayanagutta, Bahadurpura, Yakutpura, Malakpet, Karwan and Nampally Assembly seats.

The survey, KCR said, focused on the impact of the various schemes taken up by the government for the minorities which includes the launch of minority residential schools and the efforts being made to provide 12 percent reservation to Muslims in educational institutions and employment. It was found that the minority community was happy with the measures being taken up by the government.

The reorganisation of districts, new revenue divisions and mandals and the strict implementation of welfare and developmental programmes have further strengthened the TRS. People are very happy with government’s decision to carve smaller districts for administrative convenience, the Chief Minister said.

The ruling party, which could win only 60 out of 119 seats in 2014 election, would sweep the next elections; the fact has been clearly indicated in the survey that was taken up to assess the pulse of the people and to know their feedback on the performance of the government in the last two-and-a- half years.

“The TRS would emerge an undisputed political party by winning over 100 seats leaving the opposition tally in the Assembly to only 10 seats,” KCR said.

With the new districts in place, TRS has now decided to focus attention on strengthening the party in the newly-formed 21 districts particularly in Shamshabad, Kothagudem, Wanaparty, Nagarkurnool, Vikarabad, Medchal, Suryapeta and Jogulamba districts where the leadership needs to be consolidated.
