Mahbubnagar: District Collector Ronald Rose directed the Horticulture officials to hold more number of awareness camps and training programmes for the farmers to encourage polyhouse farming in the district. He was speaking at an awareness and training programme on horticulture crops and polyhouse farming at DRDA office in the district.

The Collector said, “As large part of Mahbubnagar district has arid and dry conditions, the farmers in the district must be encouraged to take up polyhouse farming and must be trained accordingly,” he said, “The polyhouse farming is relatively newer method of farming being introduced to our farmers.

This type of farming gives more profits to the farmers with less investment. Therefore the Horticulture department must take up more awareness and training programmes so that awareness levels among the small farmers will improve and they will come forward to take up this new method of farming,” observed Ronald Rose.

The State government has been providing various schemes, facilities and subsidies for the farmers to take up polyhouse farming, Ronald Rose said, adding that however due to lack of awareness and proper guidance not many have come forward to install polyhouses in their agriculture fields.

The polyhouse farming is said to be highly productive particularly for the horticulture crops like flowers, fruits and vegetables. “We are also planning to establish marketing facilities and storage facilities in the district so that the farmers can utilise them for better marketing and store their produce for longer duration,” the Collector said.

As the State government was providing many subsidised schemes for erecting the polyhouses, interested farmers are advised to approach the Horticulture department for more information. Along with District Collector Ronald Rose, Horticulture department Assistant Director Sarojini, MLA Srinivas Goud, horticulture department officials and farmers were present.
