Congress to celebrate ‘Thanksgiving Day’ on Sonia’s birthday on December 9; To hold dharna on Dec 20 to highlight State government’s failures
Hyderabad: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president N Uttam Kumar Reddy described the first half of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government’s term as totally disappointing and a setback for the new State of Telangana.
Addressing a press conference along with other senior leaders at Gandhi Bhavan here on Friday, Uttam Kumar Reddy said the Congress granted statehood to Telangana to fulfil people's aspirations and bring prosperity. However, with its misadministration and bad governance, the TRS government had pushed Telangana into backwardness by many decades. He said no section of the society was happy with the performance of the TRS government.
He said the TRS government failed to fulfil even a single promise that it had made to the people during 2014 general elections. Uttam Kumar Reddy alleged that the TRS government had pushed Telangana into huge debts due to its economic mismanagement. He slammed the government for not clearing the dues of crop loan waiver scheme, fee reimbursement, Indiramma Housing and other welfare schemes.
He said Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao failed to identify and address the priority areas and focused on glorification of image of himself and his family members. He said instead of constructing houses of few hundred sq ft on 100 sq yards of land for weaker section, the Chief Minister constructed a palatial bungalow of one lakh sq ft for himself on nine acres of land. He asked Chandrashekar Rao to clarify whether the construction of Chief Minister’s new residence was so essential.
Stating the there was huge resentment among the people towards TRS government, he said that Chandrashekar Rao had spent last two-and-a-half years in buying out legislators of Opposition parties.
Speaking about farmers, the Congress leader said the State government had failed to address the problems being faced by farmers.
Commenting on slain gangster Nayeem’s case, Uttam Kumar Reddy alleged that the Chief Minister was trying to hush up the case as clear evidences of Nayeem’s nexus with a senior politician and a police office were found during investigation. He also alleged that Chandrashekar Rao had entered into a secret pact with his Andhra Pradesh counterpart N Chandrababu Naidu to hush up the ‘Cash-for-Vote’ scam.
Meanwhile, Uttam Kumar Reddy informed that the birthday of Congress president Sonia Gandhi on December 9 would be celebrated across the State as ‘Telangana Thanksgiving Day’ as it also coincides with the announcement of statehood for Telangana. He said that the Congress would organise a massive dharna at Indira Park on December 20 to highlight the failures of the TRS government.
Leader of Opposition in Legislative Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir, TPCC vice-presidents Mallu Ravi and Ponnam Prabhakar, former minister Danam Nagender, former Vice-Chairman of NDMA Marri Sashidhar Reddy and other senior leaders were also present in the press conference.
