Hyderabad: State government formed a 14-member State Energy Conservation Committee (SECC) which will provide a direction in the energy conservation, policy making and initiatives of the State.According to officials of the Telangana State Renewable Energy Development Corporation (TSREDCL) the committee would be headed by the special chief secretary of energy department with TSREDCL vice-chairman and managing director as the member secretary for the newly formed committee under the Energy Conservation Act, 2001.

Speaking to The Hans India, a senior member of the newly constituted committee said the committee would take stock of the current energy consumption and conservation scenario in industry, urban, transport and other sectors in the State and advise the government in policy making and implementation of schemes in line with one of the sustainable development goals prescribed by the United Nations.It is against this backdrop that the committee would review the existing State Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC).

The committee would meet once in three months and the government had asked it to examine the issues related to State Energy Conservation Fund (SECF) in Telangana and make required recommendations. That apart, the SECC would also coordinate with the Central government and its agencies for support in implementing different energy conservation schemes. The Centrally Sponsored Schemes (CSS) and the State government Schemes (SGS) would be monitored by the newly formed committee.

It would suggest changes needed in the existing polices of energy, related to different sectors and also review the implementation of various energy intensive schemes being implemented by the State. The main focus would be to bring in a comprehensive plan and implementation of energy conservation. It would also study the conservation practices being implemented in industrial sector and submit a report to the government.
