Says CM K Chandrashekar Rao is cheating various communities in the name of reservations
Hyderabad: Accusing the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government of doing injustice to all communities in the State, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president N Uttam Kumar Reddy said only the Congress could ensure social justice.
Addressing a massive public meeting at Tandur on Thursday as part of 126th birth anniversary celebrations of Dr B R Ambedkar, Uttam Kumar Reddy alleged that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao was cheating all communities in the name of increase in their reservation percentage.
Stating that the Congress had extended full support to the Reservation Bill which provided for increase in reservation percentage for Muslims and STs, he said Chandrashekar Rao was silent when the Congress asked him about their implementation.
He said the Chief Minister did not answer when the Congress asked him whether he would not seek votes from Muslims in next elections if he failed to implement 12 percent quota. He said Chandrashekar Rao’s silence clearly showed his lack of commitment. Similarly, he said the TRS government delayed increase in ST quota although it had no legal complications.
Uttam Kumar Reddy demanded that the government increase the reservation to 50 percent for Backward Classes and enhance quota for Scheduled Castes to 16 percent. He said the reservation for all communities should be proportionate to their population. He said that the TRS government delayed the revision of reservation percentage by almost three years and asked Chandrashekar Rao to apologise for the same.
Ridiculing the concept of ‘Gulabi Coolie’ campaign being run by the TRS leaders to raise money for their public meeting, he said whether a common man or labourer would earn Rs 7 lakh by selling ice creams as was done by IT Minister K T Rama Rao. Similarly, he said Nizamabad MP Kavitha, Irrigation Minister Harish Rao and other leaders had been cheating people with their claims of earning lakhs of rupees by selling tea or other products.
Congress floor leader in Lok Sabha Mallikarjuna Kharge described Chandrashekar Rao and Prime Minister Narendra Modi as two sides of the same coin and accused them of cheating the people. AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh stressed on the revival of ideology practised by Dr Ambedkar. He said the present BJP government at the Centre and the TRS government in Telangana State were anti-Dalit and anti-minorities.
The meeting was also addressed by other senior leaders including S Jaipal Reddy, K Jana Reddy, Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and others.
