Hyderabad: Stating that the public meeting of the ruling party was an utter failure, Telangana BJP president K Laxman on Friday said the countdown for the downfall of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) had begun in the State.Addressing a press conference here along with party leaders G Premender Reddy, Ch Sambamurthy, Sudhakar Sharma and others, the BJP president said though the ruling party had misused official machinery and spent crores of rupees for the meeting, there was no public support and it was not on expected lines.

The ruling party believed that over 10 lakh people would attend but there were many open spaces in the ground, he added. The BJP leader alleged that the TRS leaders had failed to give their report card on their government in their ‘Pragati Nivedana Sabha’. Laxman said the TRS supremo K Chandrashekar Rao used two steps whenever he felt the party was losing its charm. “Either he goes for by-elections or takes up a public meeting. During the Telangana agitation, he used the resignation as a tool but this time, the TRS chief decided to go for public meeting to avoid by-elections,” said Laxman.

Laxman took exception to the Chief Minister’s statements that he would fight against the anti-Telangana forces. The BJP leader said in that case, the Chief Minister should fight against the forces within the TRS party. He also questioned the silence of the Chief Minister on the centenary celebrations of Osmania University. “As an old student of the university, I expected the Chief Minister would announce something but he disappointed many alumni members,” said Laxman.
