​New Delhi: Forest and Environment Minister Jogu Ramanna met Union Minister for Roads and Highways Nitin Gadkari here on Tuesday and urged him to include Telangana Roads in the Green Highway programme taken up by the Centre to increase the green cover around the State.

Speaking about the 'Haritha Haram' programme undertaken by the State government, he told the Union Minister that 4,000 nurseries had been established along the highways to improve the green cover.Green Highways project launched by the Centre in 2015, had been earmarked Rs 1,000 crore per year for plantation purpose.

The policy had been aimed at generating five lakh jobs in rural areas.The programme has a strong monitoring system under which each plant would be monitored. The Telangana government also embarked a massive greening programme at the behest of the Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and would take an active part in the national programme, Jogu Ramanna stated after meeting the Minister.
