Sangareddy: A sea of humanity descended on Sangareddy on Thursday to welcome the All India Congress Committee (AICC) vice president Rahul Gandhi for his ‘Praja Garjana’ public meeting at Ambedkar Stadium.

The stadium was filled to the brim with party workers and supporters, thus putting to rest the claims of Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) that Congress is now a dead snake.

The huge following Gandhi family has was evident from the mass mobilisation seen in Sangareddy that is part of the Medak parliamentary constituency which was once represented by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

Even though the meeting got delayed, the crowd kept pouring in with drums-beats, fireworks, dances and slogans. People gathered along the roads to witness the processions, hoping to catch a glimpse of Rahul Gandhi, and convoys of other party leaders. Needless to mention, the entire State leadership of Congress was present on the occasion.

Hundreds of buses, DCMs, SUVs and cars carrying followers came from Narsapur, Medak, Narayankhed, Sangareddy, Siddipet, Toopran, Jogipet and parts of United Medak district and also from faraway places.

Police to manage the crowd did not allow vehicles heading towards the public meeting to enter the town. Temporary parking lots were setup at all the entry points of the town, from where participants were allowed to walk to the venue.

However, even though the police was prepared, residents still faced traffic problems. Even as the meeting was in progress, the entire new bus stand area was jam-packed with crowd. Muslim minorities and ST lambadas were mobilised in large numbers for the event.

There were many burqa-clad Muslim women who had come from villages close to Sangareddy. They brought drinking water along with them so they could break their Ramzan fast during the meeting. Lambada women came from remote hamlets in their traditional attire.

The crowd mobilised was way more than those who came to see Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to inaugurate Mission Bhagiratha in Gajwel. It was also more than the unprecedented crowd which was mobilised when Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao attended a public meeting during his campaign for Narayankhed Assembly constituency by-election held last year. Narayankhed Assembly constituency public meeting was seen as a game changer for TRS.
