Sangareddy: The stalemate has been continuing over payment of compensation for farmers’ lands used for erecting 765 KV and 400 KV high tension overhead power lines as part of Hyderabad-Wardha power grid. On Saturday, about 50 farmers led by Andhole Krishna, State president, Sarpanchula Ikya Vedika, staged a sit-in outside the office of Sangareddy Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO). They demanded that the RDO reveal the amount of compensation to be paid to the farmers.
Laxmamma (40), a resident of Vendikol village under Pulkal mandal, was in tears as she narrated her plight. She owns 30 guntas of land in which three towers were erected for 750 KV power line. She was paid by Power Grid Corporation of India Rs 70,000 in two instalments. The workers dig huge trenches and scattered granite metal all over the place, making the land incultivable during the current kharif season.
Kishtaiah (45), another farmer from the same village, had agreed to sell half an acre of his agricultural land to a buyer for Rs 6.5 lakh. The buyer had already given Rs 50,000 as advance. The Corporation also paid him Rs 40,000. After towers were erected on his land, the buyer cancelled the deal because the value of land got depreciated after the towers were erected
Now Kishtaiah is in a fix, not knowing what to do. While the 400 KV line is being laid by private power contractors, the 750 KV line is being laid by the Power Grid Corporation of India.
On Saturday, Sudhakar Rao, an Engineer with the Power Grid Corporation, came to the RDO office as there was supposed to be a meeting between the farmers and the RDO.
“I am only here to get the order copy from the RDO regarding the payment of compensation. There is an agreement between the Centre and the State government that there won’t be any compensation to be paid. But if the District Collector has given an order about compensation, we would like to get it from RDO.
That is why I am here,” he told The Hans India. Angry farmers kept questioning Sudhakar Rao why he and his workers were threatening them of dire consequences if they tried to stall the work. Ramulu, Member, National Scheduled Castes Commission, who was being felicitated in the ZP auditorium during his maiden tour of Sangareddy, was approached by the farmers who poured out their woes to him.
