Police are on high alert in agency villages in view of Martyr’s Memorial Week to be observed from July 28 to August 4.
Bhupalpalli/Mahabubabad: Police are on high alert in agency villages in view of Martyr’s Memorial Week to be observed from July 28 to August 4.
The police in Bhupalpalli and Mahabubabad districts are taking extra care to prevent any untoward incident and launched massive combing operations in the forests and interior areas. Intensive vehicle inspections are being conducted on highways.
Special focus is being laid on villages situated in Telangana and Chhattisgarh states and those along River Godavari in Bhupalpalli district. It may be noted that pamphlets and wall posters by CPI (Maoist) Telangana state committee have appeared at three places the district during the past one week.
The pamphlets and wall posters have appeared at Tadwai, Govindaraopet and Venkatapur in the district. The Maoists appealed the villagers in the district to observe the Martyr’s Memorial Week and pay rich homage to the martyrs.
The public were asked to organise rallies and meetings in large numbers and to build memorials for the martyrs in all the villages in Telangana while asserting that armed struggle was the only way to protect people’s rights.
The Maoists accused the State and Central governments of resorting to anti-people policies, while protecting the interests of corporate and multi-national forces as part of globalisation policy. They demanded the governments immediately stop operation Green hunt.
The heightened police activity and the appearance of Maoist pamphlets have put the villagers on tenterhooks. A senior police officer while dismissing the chances of any violent acts by the Maoists said, ‘Yet we are not taking any chances, high alertness is being maintained under all the police circles in Bhupalpalli district’ Meanwhile in Mahabubabad, the movements of underground cadre of CPI (ML-New Democracy) have increased.
According to the police, the dalams of New Democracy have held several meetings in the forests in the recent past. The arrest of the party regional committee secretary Avunuri Narayana Swamy alias Madhu by Garla police is giving strength to police claims. Mahabubabad SP N Koti Reddy appealed the public in the district to inform the police if they found anyone moving with fire arms and appealed the naxals to join the mainstream by quitting arms.
